  • 1cup pumpkin puree
  • ¼cup peanut butter
  • 2large eggs
  • ½cup old fashioned oats
  • 3cups whole wheat flour, or more, as needed
  • 1carrot, peeled and shredded
  • 1zucchini, shredded
  • 1cup baby spinach, chopped

Directions

  1. Preheatoven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a siliconebaking mat; set aside.
  2. Inthe bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat pumpkinpuree, peanut butter, and eggs on medium-high until well combined, about 1-2minutes.
  3. Graduallyadd old fashioned oats and 2 ½ cups flour at low speed, beating just untilincorporated. Add an additional ¼ cup flour at a time just until the dough isno longer sticky. Add carrot, zucchini, and spinach, beating just untilincorporated.
  4. Workingon a lightly floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comestogether. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to ¼-inch thickness. Using cookiecutters, cut out desired shapes, and place onto the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Placeinto oven and bake until the edges are golden brown, about 20-25 minutes.*
  6. Letcool completely.

  2. Washand peel the sweet potato.
  3. Cutthe sweet potato into evenly-sized long and skinny (fry shaped) pieces.
  4. Coatwith oil and spices. Mix in a large bowl or Ziploc bag.
  5. Placefries on the baking sheet in one layer.
  6. Bakefor 15 minutes.
  7. Flipover fries for even baking.
  8. Bakefor another 10-15 minutes.
  9. Letcool before giving to your dog.

Vegetables are healthy not only for us but also for our dogs. These turmeric dog treats harness the goodness of green vegetables, crunchy carrots, and yummy applesauce. In addition to that, the use of gluten-free flours makes sure that these vegetable dog treats stay healthy. The following list of ingredients yields 35 heart-shaped treats.

Ingredients:

  • 1½ cups brown rice flour
  • ¾cup oat flour
  • 1cup fresh, baby spinach (finely chopped)
  • 1cup raw carrot (unpeeled and coarse grated)
  • ¼cup fresh parsley (chopped)
  • ½cup applesauce (unsweetened)
  • ¼cup plain yogurt (low fat or fat-free)
  • 1tsp baking powder (gluten-free variety)
  • ¼tsp turmeric powder

Optional Yogurt Glaze:

  • ½tsp plain yogurt
  • 2tsp water

Directions

  1. Preheatoven to 325F. Line baking tray with parchment or silicone baking mat.
  2. Putbrown rice flour and oat flour (sieved) into a medium-sized bowl. Add bakingpowder and stir to combine.
  3. Finelychop spinach and parsley and coarsely grate carrots (washed but unpeeled).
  4. Putspinach, parsley, carrots, and applesauce into a large bowl and stir with a woodenspoon to mix well. Add yogurt and stir into fruit/vegetable mixture. Sprinkleturmeric over mixture and stir in.
  5. Addflour mix to the vegetable mixture one cup at a time. Stir well between eachaddition. Once all flour is mixed in, use your hands to form the dough. Kneadwell, adding more flour if the dough is too sticky.
  6. Turndough out onto floured wax paper and top with a second sheet. Roll dough out to1/4″ thickness and use cookie cutters to cut treats into the desired shape.
  7. Mixyogurt and water to form a glaze and brush it over treats before baking.(optional)
  8. Bakeat 325F for 35 minutes.
  9. Removetreats from oven and allow to cool completely. Store treats in refrigerator for7 – 10 days.

Fortunately, you can make dehydrated sweet potatodog treats at home. The following recipe will produce 5 trays of this delicioussnack.

Ingredients:

  • 2largesweet potatoes
  • 1/2poundgreen beans
  • 2redbell peppers

Directions

  1. Filla stockpot about three-quarters full of water and set to boil. If the waterboils before you’re done prepping, just turn it down to medium-low until youneed it. It will perk back up quickly.
  2. Rinseall your veggies well.
  3. Snapor snip the ends off your green beans and set aside.
  4. Peelsweet potatoes and slice into 1/4″ pieces, rounds, or strips. If you have amandoline slicer, this step goes quickly.
  5. Putgreen beans and sweet potatoes in boiling water to blanch for 4 minutes.
  6. Addice and cold water to a large bowl to drain blanched veggies when they’reready.
  7. Preparesweet bell peppers by removing seeds and white pith. Slice into 1/4″ strips.
  8. Removebeans and potatoes when done by dipping a long-handled strainer into theboiling water, draining a second, and then pouring veggies into ice-bath.
  9. Whenall veggies are removed from the boiling water, add the bell pepper strips andblanch for 1 minute. Remove them from the stockpot and add to the ice bath.
  10. Whenall veggies are cooled, proceed to thedryingstage.
  11. Ona large cookie sheet or sheet pan, place a clean dry tea towel or two layers ofpaper towel.
  12. Placecooled veggies onto the drytowel, adding another towel on top and anotherlayer of veggies on top of that until arethe veggies are nestled in. Pator squeeze gently.
  13. Layerdried veggies onto dehydrator trays, taking care to make sure nothing istouching.
  14. Dehydratebetween110-140 degrees for at least 8 hours.
  15. Ifyou want your sweet potatoes chewier, you can pull them out and continue dryingyour other veggies to the crisp stage.
  16. Whenfully dehydrated, allow veggies to cool to room temperature. Then, packlooselyin an airtight container or bag.
